Psychoperipatetikos
Today, then, begins the journal, or scrapbook, that I will call Psychoperipatetikos. It will contain jottings, notes, pensées, photographs and sketches gleaned from walks around London, and meditations on writing projects from the present, past, and, let us hope, future.
I often begin a London walk by de-training at Fenchurch Street station, or Tower Bridge tube, and then proceeding over Tower Bridge to the South Bank, where a long, almost completely uninterrupted stretch of pedestrian walkway runs alongside the Thames for several miles. I usually take this route as far as Hungerford Bridge, where I cross the river into the West End.
Here’s a photo I took of the Tower of London with the Shard as backdrop. I’ve sometimes thought it would make a fitting cover for an e-book edition of my novel Lord Soho: A Time Opera.
