Fun House ...

May 24, 2015

This photo was taken last year as I walked under the Millennium Bridge on my way to Tate Modern to see the Richard Hamilton exhibition, the ‘first retrospective to encompass the full scope of Hamilton’s work, from his early exhibition designs of the 1950s to his final paintings of 2011.’ This was indeed an extensive, and, what is more, a well-curated show. I was particularly pleased to see (and explore) the 1956 installation Fun House (a structure combining blown-up Hollywood stills, science fiction imagery, advertising, reproductions of well-known art works, with sound effects and optical illusions). And I was also very pleased to have the chance (at last) to view the seminal pop-art painting/collage Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?
